This section explores the role of aerobic and resistance exercise in a weight reduction program and the metabolic fate of fats and carbohydrates. The leaders offer practical advice for clients regarding reduction diets and measuring body fat.
9:15-12:00 1) Exercise and Aging
Dr. Evans will discuss the effects exercise has on body function (reducing the risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension) & the changing nutritional needs with aging.

2) Protein Metabolism and Exercise
Dr. Evans will discuss resistance training, protein needs of athletes, muscle damage, protein metabolism and aging, and protein needs of amenorrheic athletes.

Nancy Clark will share her experiences counseling eating disordered athletes and offer suggestions for converting an athleteHs food obsessions and nutritional deficiencies into healthful diets. Case study on how to approach an athlete with an eating disorder.

The speakers will lead an open discussion about current fad diets, weight management programs and problems, and provide information to enhance your counseling skills.
1:15-3:15 Sports Nutrition Counseling Skills
Nancy Clark will translate the latest research into nutrition advice for active people, including counseling tips and case studies. Topics will include protein, carbohydrates, pre-exercise meals and snacks, supplements, quick energy, recovery foods.
